In my fourth grade classroom, I have found that learning is a two way street. Often, I think I learn far more from my students than they learn from me. Each student is a window into a whole universe that I've never experienced. Over twenty years of teaching, my students have taught me to postpone knee-jerk reactions to their behaviors and replace it with curiosity. Listen and ask. Then listen some more. If a student comes to me with a problem, quite frequently, the problem is gone by the time they're done telling me about it.
